On the water

How to use it

The phone is the chart. These screens are the same jobs the app does, drawn so the words stay readable.

1

Read the chart

  1. The compass cycles north up, heading up, and bearing up.
  2. Follow keeps the boat in the picture. Tap it again to look around.
  3. Layers switches the base between shaded water and satellite, then contours, depths, labels, seamarks, fishing spots, and the 1 and 5 NM rings.
  4. Wind and current are the cones on the right. Color is speed in knots.
  5. The clock under the chart is also the tide. NOW snaps to the time on the phone. Free can move through the 4 hours after the kelp was marked. The rest of the scale stays visible.

Mark the object

  1. Drop the pin on the boat, or on the chart.
  2. Name it. Kelp at 0.8% wind, debris at 1.5%, a high-freeboard skiff at 3.2%. Custom is the slider.
  3. Predict drift. The outline is the search area, clipped so it does not run onto land.
  4. Pins keeps the list. Hide a pin you are not fishing. A hidden pin is still saved.
  5. Free keeps one live kelp, for 4 hours after it was marked. A second kelp, or debris or a skiff, asks for Pro. Parking the kelp makes room. It does not delete it. A pin someone sent you does not use that one kelp.

Deep drop

  1. Set the target on the boat or on the chart. The chart controls stay up while you pick the spot.
  2. The boat is the one you picked in My Boats. Wind push comes with it.
  3. Depth starts as the chart sounding until you type your own. Weight is the lead.
  4. Simulate. The start card is the coordinate up-drift, in degrees and decimal minutes. Put the boat there.
  5. Track Drift records the boat in neutral and uses that water instead of the forecast.

Anchor

  1. Pick the spot the same way as a deep drop: on the boat, or on the chart.
  2. Choose the anchor style. The sizes change with the style. Fluke, plow, claw, grapnel, and mushroom are not one shared list.
  3. Set the chain you actually carry. Scope starts from the style, then depth and chain move it.
  4. Simulate. The chart draws the set and the swing circle. The collapsed card stays between the side controls.

Scope 7 · set on the swing

Depth is the chart sounding until you replace it. The ring is how far the boat can walk around the anchor.

Dock sync

  1. Run it at the dock, while you still have a signal.
  2. The phone stores wind, current, and the chart pack for the offshore grid.
  3. Free keeps the forecast for that kelp from the drop through 4 hours.
  4. Pro opens the scrubber from 24 hours back through 48 ahead, so you can see yesterday’s kelp and tomorrow’s dawn.

After this, the drift, the deep drop, and the anchor set keep working with the radio off.

Mates and the pin you send

  1. Search a username and ask them aboard. They accept on their phone. No Pro required to be on the list.
  2. PASS CARD is a picture: the pin, the place, and a note to join. Anyone can receive a picture.
  3. A live pin is Pro. You send it. They can open it without paying. Their copy says who sent it and when it was pinned.
  4. FLEET is the tab next to Mates. It lists the fleets you are assigned to, and a landing can run more than one fleet, request seats, and assign a username or hold a seat for an email. Leave is on your fleet. Leaving without your own Pro account puts the phone back on Free.
  5. On a pin, one boat sends it to one mate. The group of boats sends that one pin to the fleet. The rest of your pins stay private.
  6. They can take it off their own chart. You still have it.

Read it on the radio

  1. Open VHF from the chart. The card is big type on a dark ground.
  2. Read the name, the coordinate in degrees and decimal minutes, then the bearing and distance from the boat.
  3. Times on this card stay Zulu. The pin list on the chart uses local 24-hour time.
  4. On Free, the drift bearing and range update only inside the 4 hours after the drop.

The account

  1. An account is optional. The chart, the pin, and the drift work on the phone without one.
  2. Sign in when you want mates, a live pin on another boat, or a log that can come back on a new phone.
  3. ACCOUNT can change the email, the password, and send a reset if the password is forgotten.
  4. DELETE ACCOUNT removes the login and what was stored for it. The steps are on the delete account page. Pins that never left this phone stay on this phone.
